Day 2 part 1
At 2:35am Tucker was starting to breathe on his own enough that they removed the breathing tube. They lowered his pain medications to a safe area and attempted to try to wake him up. Well, our little fighter did not disappoint, he threw quite a show! So much so that he was held down by 2 nurses, myself, 1 respiratory therapist and one cardiologist. They pushed two doses of morphine, versed and something else, nothing would calm him. He proceeded to rip off his oxygen mask and bat his restrained arm at the nurses. I has to step out of the room at one point, it was just so upsetting. He would be screaming "mama, no hurt, boo boo's, b (what he calls his pacifier) and baba (his bottle)." After I cleared my head a little, I stepped out of the unit, went to the bathroom, and I could still hear him screaming out of the CICU, amazing since we are at the end of the unit. Yup, room 30 the side of the floor that we are on is a big horseshoe shape. Absolutely heart wrenching!!
