Day 3 Part 2 the price of having the best care in the world.

Dr Emani and Dr Porras had a bedside meeting with us this morning around 9:30am today.

Key points discussed were the following.
1. O2 saturations shouldn't already be up to the high 90's.  Dr. Emani is a little concerned that Tucker's fenestration (a 4mm hole that they place in the heart during surgery to regulate blood flow and oxygen pressures) could have closed on his own.  This can happen as the body has a way of healing itself.  This would also be a concern, as fluid can start to accumulate in the heart and liver, which would explain why he hasn't been retaining so much fluid in his abdomen and why it is all distended.

2. They might repeat an echo in the next few days to check on the fenestration if he doesn't start bouncing back soon.  The Echo will show them if the fenestration is starting to close or if it already has closed.

3. Fluid has got to come off, so they will be adding a new diuretic to his list of medications.  This one will hopefully work at getting the thicker secretions out.

4. Decrease oxygen downward and see what happens.

5. Dr. Emani informed us that he was called to fly out internationally to help save a very sick heart child in Germany.  Dr. Porras assured us that he would be here until a determination would be made about a possible additional catheterization.

10:45am Mommy and Daddy attended rounds together this morning with the post surgical team while Tucker watched "Dora The Explorer".  The plan for the day is to wait and see how Tucker manages his pain and see how much out put he gets from his drains.  It doesn't look like his drains are coming out anytime soon, but they are hopeful that maybe Tucker will be moved to the step down floor as early as this evening.  Kate from Child Life has brought is unlimited Dora the Explorer to keep Tucker happy.  We love them!

Noon- Well now, Tucker has had another tiny setback.  Brit, his RN, brought his pain meds and we were going to try and sit him up to eat.  He screamed and screeched as loud as he could.  He spit all of his Tylenol out of his mouth and all over himself.  He was not happy!  He got himself so worked up that he earned himself another 2 liters of oxygen.

12:40 Mommy just opened the greatest treats ever from our New Zealand friends.  These are pineapple charleston chews.  HEAVEN in a bag!

Kate also told is that Tucker will be getting his bead necklace when we head over to the step down unit.   So exciting!

Also a HUGE thank you to everyone who bombarded me with pleas to help my cause of locating a new lamby.  it is the only thing that settles Tucker.  My wonderful friend Lisa who investigated tirelessly this morning and has secured Tucker, not just one but TWO brand new lamby's.  and the best part...THEY ARE COMPLETELY FREE!  So grateful!  Xo  We even have the MD's checking out the little lamb's stats as well.  Hoping that when Tucker feels better this will be comforting for him.

Thank you everyone for continuing to pray for the family of the transplant patient who is also in the cardiac ICU.  There was a "code red" announcement and our RN and the entire floor ran two rooms over.  It was the scariest thing that I have ever experienced on this floor.  Our floor MD told us that the baby is doing ok now.  Please continue to send your prayers to all of us.
