Today Tucker was assigned a student teacher named Sarah. Sarah, who is originally from Seattle, Washington is a Junior at boston College. At the end of her shift, she thanked me for being so candid about the life of a heart mom. She said that she learned more in the several hours with us than she had learned all season in a classroom. What a great feeling. I wished Sarah well in school, and told her that she will make one hell of a great RN, even if she is afraid to give a 2 year old liquid Tylenol. :o)
Tucker got to cut the line today because he was inpatient for his morning X-ray. The Radiology Technician, gave me a synopsis of the X-ray machine and it's technology over the last few years at Children's Hospital.
Our BIG news from today was that right after Daddy arrived for the morning, Tucker got his chest tubes out. There were so many nicks in the #2's tube, they were starting to be held together with Tegaderm and tape. Lauren from Child life came into the treatment room with us so she could distract Tucker with an interactive Dora the Explorer game. After Tucker's large dose of Morphine and 2 doses of Versed, he was an absolute angel during the procedure. The surgeon had to use a straight scalpel right next to his skin so he had to not move and inch. That is why there are so many people in the photo below. He kind of has a reputation around the floor as a wild one.
Tucker plays with a spinning light, Versed is great!
The last few days it appears that Tucker's O2 stats are settling in around 90. We'll take it!
After Tucker had his drain tubes removed, he took LONG nap. Mommy got to go for a Starbucks run. While on my way back to the Hospital, I noticed that the Blood bank moved across the street. I stopped by to donate a pint. After the violating personal sexual history quiz was answered. I retreated to the back of the center for my cookies and juice. My first stop, iron test. YUP, FAILED AGAIN! By, 0.1 of a point too! STORY OF MY LIFE! I told the tech that I would return after a steak dinner...LOL
After plenty of time to kill, perused around the gift shop for a while and stumbled on this...LOVE!
Settled on a gift for myself...GO SOX!!
Chest xray #2..NOT TUBES!
Every time that we walk to xray we walk past this...It's essential in a hospital for breast feeding mom's, I get it. But I just don't understand who buys the $20 bag of oatmeal cookies to boost their breast milk supply?
Tucker did wonderful with his tubes out We went to the play room and her got to play with the train track and all sorts of fun things. We also had a very special honor this afternoon. We were asked if we wanted a personal photo shoot. Although Tucker wasn't at his happiest this afternoon two professional photographers got some great shots of Tucker playing in his johnny in the playroom. They are going to mail me the disk with all rights to his photos. What a special gift! One more reason why I need to finish writing Tucker's Story book. I hope that they got some good ones for us to use for the book.
After our photo shoot, I noticed how very weak Tucker was in his legs. He was unable to stand or walk, fall backwards when he tried, so I asked for a PT to come and see him. She worked with him a little and will back first thing tomorrow to work on more with him. I completely realize that he will have some setbacks, but to not walk for such a short time and then to not be able to walk. We are going to have to get to the bottom of the cause of this?
10 minutes after the PT walks out of our room...
My Aunt Nancy and Cousin John came by with my mom to visit this evening. What an honor to be in the direct company of the newest Boston PFLAG scholarship winner. More excited that he requests the honor of my presence at the ceremony in April. So proud! #heisgoingtochnagetheworldoneday xo
